Essay 1
Tell us a little about yourself. How do you feel your actions demonstrate who you are in the world?

Describe a social or justice issue that you feel is particularly urgent in your community and/or in society at large; and explain why you chose it. What do you know about it? Why is it so urgent? What questions do you have about it? How might you work with others to positively impact it?

Bonner Scholars value diversity of all kinds (e.g., racial, ethnic, socio-economic, religious, sexual orientation, gender identity, etc.). Please describe an experience you have had that helped you recognize the value of diversity. What exactly did you learn from it?

A Bonner core commitment and learning outcome is social justice, which can be defined as equal rights, equal opportunities, and equal treatment for everyone, where no group is at a relative advantage or disadvantage compared to other groups. Please fully answer all three parts of this question: a) Where have you noticed social injustice in our society? b) Are your examples isolated examples or part of systemic injustice, pervasively and deeply embedded in systems, laws, written or unwritten policies and practices and beliefs that produce, condone and perpetuate widespread unfair treatment and oppression? c) How do you know?
